Meet Nicole and Darren! To meet them is to laugh with them. They are funny, witty, serious only when they need to be and most important they are very much in love. These two will see the humor in everyday life and make laughing a priority! Together they are definitely in their bubble and you are either along for the ride or you are not. I love this about them!

It takes a lot of mental energy to come up with quick-witted quips that keep grins on others’ faces and they certainly have this talent. Together they see the humor in—life’s absurdities which simply makes them a fun coupe to be around.

We started in the DJ control room to the drama room and parking lot ending on top of the hill as they wanted a beautiful view of Calgary! It was a great session and we can’t wait for their big day!!

When is the big day?

October 20th, 2016!

How did you meet?

Nicole: Darren and I both applied to the RTBN program in 2011 at SAIT Polytechnic. We had our selection session both scheduled for the month of February. He and I ended up being in the same interview group. I was horrendously sick and we were both nervous. We ended up answering last for every question together, bickering back and forth who was going to go first.

Darren: At the selection session in the RTBN (Radio/Television & Broadcast News) program at SAIT Polytechnic. We both had to answer questions to get into the program and I kept being chivalrous and allowing her to answer first. Doing this was not to be chivalrous, but so that I would be the last to answer and be more memorable, but she eventually caught on and did the same to me.

When you first met what did you notice first?

Nicole: Darren is confident, and I found it incredibly intriguing. I also hate to sound shallow, but I think he’s a dude-babe. He was also the first guy to turn me down, and that drove me insane.

How did he propose?

Nicole: Well…the real story? I ended up nagging him outside of a bar one night because of course, like a typical woman, I wanted to know when we were getting engaged. We knew it was going to happen, just a matter of when. Of course, he had his grandmother’s rings and I was just being impatient and needy. We’re big on romance.

Darren: What we told people — I went on a run with her one morning and faked a leg cramp. When she came back to check on me, I was on one-knee and popped the question. What really happened — We were outside of a karaoke bar, arguing about the longevity of our relationship. I had plans to propose later that month, but due to this argument I just said “I HAVE THE RING AT HOME, DO YOU WANT TO SEE IT?!” And the rest is history.

Favourite thing about each other?

Nicole: Darren is the most positive person I’ve ever met, and I am known to be somewhat of a little black rain cloud. At the end of the day, no matter what has happened, he’s always there to make me laugh (or cackle like Joan Rivers). It sounds corny, but we’re that couple that finishes each others sentences, and I love it more than anything. Darren has never tried to change me. Instead, he brings out the happy, funny, bright person that I am, and I’m eternally grateful for that.

Darren: Out of everything, what I love most is: Nicole and I can lay in bed, watching Netflix for hours, doing character voices, laughing, coming up with radio bits, talking, playing, telling stories and it never gets old. Every day we manage to make each other laugh and every day we have something new to talk about. Our relationship has never and will never get boring, dull, or quiet.

If you could give one word to describe each other what would that word be?

Nicole: KevinSmith

Darren: Outrageous!

Your idea of a perfect date?

Nicole: Honestly? It wouldn’t even matter. We have the ability to make any situation or event we are at together, ridiculous. That right there is a reflection of what our wedding day will be.

Darren: Picking up a fine $14 bottle of wine, cooking a delicious dinner, we’ve never had, from Yummly and watching Criminal Minds/Talking to each other until bed time @ the crack of 10:17pm

What are you looking forward to the most on your wedding day?

Nicole: I’m sosososo excited to wear my dress (I’m obsessed) and see Darren in his suit. It’s going to be a beautiful day with all the beautiful people in our lives.
